Workplace Relations & Employment Law

Employment law is a dynamic environment, a veritable legal mine field. With the laws constantly changing, it can be very difficult for businesses to keep up to date and to ensure their compliance with workplace and industrial law requirements. 2005 saw the introduction of the Federal Government's Work Choices legislation which heralded sweeping changes to Industrial Relations legislation across the breadth of Australia. Industrial relations legislation was again broadly amended in 2009 with the introduction of the Fair Work Act.

The Fair Work Act created the office of the Fair Work Ombudsman, an independent body with authority to investigate employment contracts, working conditions and industrial matters generally.

Industrial law is never static and continues to experience broad and sweeping amendments with the introduction of further changes from 1 January 2010 including the introduction of the National Employment Standard.
